When Clips Fail

Clips fail from material fatigue and environmental degradation. Every time a clip is removed and reinstalled, the retention features — the spring tabs that grip the mounting hole or the arms that wrap around the hose — lose a small amount of their spring force. After several removal cycles, the clip no longer holds firmly. The plastic or metal material also degrades from UV exposure, heat, oil contact, and general weathering. A brittle clip will crack rather than flex when removed, often breaking at the mounting tab or the hinge point. Over time, even clips that have never been removed can lose their grip as the material relaxes. Replace the 04434-51812 when the clip is cracked, broken, or visibly deformed; when it no longer snaps firmly into its mounting hole; when the material shows signs of degradation; or whenever a hose or tube secured by the clip is being replaced — it's good practice to renew the clips at the same time.

Installation

1. Position the clip at the correct location along the component routing — refer to the parts diagram for spacing
2. Insert the hose, tube, or wire into the clip's retention area
3. Press the clip firmly into its mounting hole — you should hear or feel a positive click as the locking tabs engage
4. Pull gently on the secured component to verify the clip holds securely
